We’re constantly told of the future, of what to look forward to, of what to work towards. There’s a slight problem that arises in an individual when his or her life depends on what will be and not what is.
It’s absolutely, undoubtedly wonderful that there are goals we set for ourselves and milestones that we cannot contain our excitement for. It’s absolutely, undoubtedly horrible that we cannot focus on the present when all that fills our mind is what is coming and what we can do to make that prospective instant, moment, hour, day, that much better. It’s additional stress.
Ask a random group of people whether they feel any stress or anxiety in their lives and let me know how many “none’s” you record. We overwhelm ourselves with an unreasonable amount of multitasking and innumerable deadlines that moments are passed without notice, without enjoyment.
The importance of streaming towards a possibly enlightening end is to each their own, but finding the balance between the pursuit of that potential happiness and what can be achieved in this instance is crucial to our wellbeing.
I have much to say as to what should be done, but that is not to say that I can achieve it myself.
